A Spring Mix from Chris B of WKDU

-Chris Burrell (@Chri5B_)

If you’re not knowing I’m here to let you know – WKDU is KILLING the dance music game right now. We’ve recently had some of Philly’s best DJs in our studio to lay down mixes and get sent an insane amount of promos from some of the top labels in the world. We’re literally right behind BBC Radio 1 in terms of roll out – they premier a track on air and I get it in my inbox that day to play.

In addition to dance music, WKDU has always been on the cutting edge of reggae, punk and hip hop. We were the first radio station to ever play The Roots on air and it was a KDU DJ who brought Rich Nichols, the eventual manager of The Roots, out to one of their shows.

When Joe & Anthony approached me about writing some stuff for Cult Classic, I knew it was a perfect fit. We both rep Philly hard and are both ahead of the curve when it comes to art and culture.

So for my first post here, I decided to record a mix – a SPRING MIX - of some of the best promos I’ve gotten recently. Most of the tracks are unreleased as of yet, but all of them are feel-good, funky, raunchy and good for dancing or just vibing out in the sun.

I put a few tracks in there from Philly producers & labels (bigup Josh Wink / Ovum & Maggs Bruchez), a few tracks that have samples you may recognize (bigup J Dilla) and the rest is just some good ass house music. I’ll let the music do the talking…stay tuned:

Catch my show Hot Mix on air Thursday nights from 10pm – 12.

Bigup Erion over at Infusion Lounge for letting me come in and record on their equipment – I’m spinning there tonight (3/20) – COME THROUGH!
