First Quarter Art Show Interview with Danni

-Joe Pitts (@headtowall)

To gear up for our First Quarter art show on March 28th in Philadelphia, we will be presenting a series of interviews with each artist displaying work at the show. After our first interview with MU from Atlanta and second interview with RichRichrich, we're back with an interview for featured artist Danni.  Peep her work and the interview below:

CCG: Tell us about yourself! What is your name, where are you from and how long have you been making art?

Danni: my name is Daniel-Ree, im from philadelphia and i've been making art practically all my life

CCG: What made you want to express yourself through art?

Danni: im not sure i have an explanation for why i express myself through art, i really don't know any other way; it's always been natural instinct

CCG: What is your preferred medium and what is special about that medium?

Danni: hmmm i prefer drawing. im sorta torn between that and painting, but i think i still love to draw the most. it gives me a different feeling than any other medium i use has.. it feels like home.

CCG:  How do you feel your art captures the story you want to tell in life?

Danni: one of my goals with my art is to make people feel comfortable with being uncomfortable.. so i create vulgar pieces and sorta just put them in your face because i know what you see will make you uncomfortable but that's okay! i feel people should be more comfortable with talking about sex or more specifically, what turns them on. -i've had people explain to me that my art made them aroused and they weren't sure that they were okay with it but they liked it, and im like.. dude!! that's awesome because that right there is why i do some of my pieces. i always say "we all a little nasty" haha it's okay to be nasty! embrace that shit haha

CCG:  How is your art a reflection of the person you are and the person you aspire to be?

Danni: my art is a reflection of me right now and also who i inspire to be, because it gives you so many opinions about it depending on which way you look at it. it makes you think. it makes you a little awkward.. but more importantly, it captures your attention. that's what i do and what i want to do as a person with whatever it is im doing.

CCG: Do you feel art is a reflection of the world or the world is more influenced by art?

Danni: both.

CCG:  If somebody could describe your art as if it were a person, how would he or she look and what would her personality be like?

Danni: im not exactly sure how someone would describe my art as if it were a person, but i would imagine the person they described would be me. captivating, awkward, fun, bright, bold, suttle -the list goes on because my art is so versatile, like me.

CCG: By doing the inaugural First Quarter art show, what is something you hope to gain from the experience?

Danni: i only hope to gain knowledge. experience, and positive feedback, but most of all, i just want to learn from it.

CCG: Okay, enough about the art. The world needs to know: you’re stranded on an island and can only bring three food items with you. What makes the cut?

Danni: this is a hard question!! i would have to say green grapes, tomatoes, and chicken! lots and lots of chicken i love chicken

CCG: What type of movie is your favorite and why? Pick from drama, action/adventure, science fiction, comedy, thriller or horror

Danni: hmmmm.. im torn between mystery and comedy. i love laughing, i mean who doesn't? and i love trying to solve the mystery before the movie ends i love thinking outside of the box

CCG: What is one of your deepest fears?

Danni: wasting my time.

CCG: What is your opinion of Philadelphia? Specifically, the creative scenes in the city (whether that be art, music, fashion or anything else creative)

Danni: there are some extremely talented people here that don't get a fraction of the recognition they deserve and i hope i can help shine light on them

CCG:  Lastly, who was your biggest artistic influence? If you don’t have one, who is someone who aspires you to create?

Danni: there's so many artist i could name, that helped mold me into the artist that i am today -Salvador Dali, klasky csupo, shel silverstein, frida khalo, tim burton, jay Howell -there are so many! they all play a huge part in what my style is but overall, a lot of my art is literally just what i see, believe it or not.
