Old Egypt Brings Together Old Sounds in New Ways

Philadelphia-based Old Egypt's debut self-titled EP dropped this week, and it's a truly eclectic genre exploration swaying from ambient reggae vibes to chilled-out trippy trap tunes. The EP's intro brings a vibe akin to ASAP Rocky's mega-hit LSD (and one of my favorite videos ever, btw). When track two drops we are hit with a hypnotic and introspective trap-influenced jam. What follows are ambient beats and droned out melodic tunes, all of which are clearly exploring the possibilities of what the Old Egypt persona can be. There's nothing inherently new here, but the vibe and arrangement of different influences combined together is begging us to ask what it even means to classify music into genres. Peep below:
